We've long been fans of Evolve Beauty, a brand we discovered while perusing the beauty aisle at local shop in North London and came to love ever since. The products are made in small batches in Hertfordshire with the best quality ingredients and thoughtfully crafted formulations your body will thank you for.
Laura has been an huge advocate for natural beauty, with the motto of less is more. Following a beauty routine that uses active ingredients from nature, it's not only nourishing but also works wonders. Another key tip ... don't forget to drink plenty of water!
Enough from us, meet the lovely Laura:
Can you give us a brief introduction into Evolve and how / when it all started?
When I was younger I actually suffered with bad skin and so I spent years searching for the best natural and organic solutions, I even took a trip to the Amazon Rainforest to research and discover ingredients. I then decided to take the plunge and turn my passion into my business which led to me creating Evolve Beauty in October 2009.
Were you always involved in the vegan skincare business or did your path start somewhere else initially?
After graduating from Harvard Business School I helped to found a brand called NUDE skincare, another natural skincare brand. I loved being a part of the clean beauty revolution and helping to create an ethical brand, this experience inspired me to set up my own ethical beauty brand.
What does your typical day look like?
A typical day for me involves waking up and getting all the little ones ready for school. I then head to pilates after doing the school run to clear my mind before heading into the Eco-Studio. Once I get into the office there’s no such thing as a typical day, as I’m working alongside all of the different teams and helping to overcome different challenges everyday.
What's your favourite and least favourite thing about creating skincare products?
My favourite thing about creating skincare products is experimenting and blending up new products to try and create something our customers will love. My least favourite thing is cleaning up the mess afterwards!
Why is vegan skincare better for you?
I believe vegan skincare products are kinder to us and the planet as we use natural ingredients which are organically grown without the use of pesticides, which helps to care for the surrounding wildlife and biodiversity. These organic ingredients also contain more nutrients which are absorbed into the skin for long lasting results.
What's your favourite ingredient to work with? And where do you get it from?
My favourite ingredient to work with is the natural and beautifully shimmery mineral Mica. It’s so gorgeous and glittery and looks amazing in our Bio-Retinol Gold Mask, Satin Body Gloss and Lip Shine True Gold. We sustainably source this amazing ingredient from India, where our suppliers regularly audit the mines to ensure safe working conditions.
What's your favourite Evolve product?
It’s so hard to pick a favorite as they’re all like my babies! If I had to choose I’d say the product I use the most is the Gentle Cleansing Melt as I use this twice every day to cleanse my skin.
Do you have anything new and exciting being released later this year and would like to share with us?
We do have some exciting new products which we can’t wait to share with everyone but I’m afraid they’ll have to stay a secret for now.
Any learnings or sage advice on the back of the lockdown?
I think we’ve all experienced that feeling during lockdown that the most important things in our lives are our families, our friends and our health and that we should never take any of these things for granted.
Best skin advice you’ve received?
Don’t over cleanse your skin! Rather than helping to tackle breakouts it can actually dry out and irritate your skin, potentially leading to further breakouts.
Now a bit on the lighter side…
What’s something feel good you’ve recently read about or listened to?
I’ve recently been listening to a really great meditation podcast to help me relax and unwind in the evenings.
What does your typical Friday night look like?
I love spending a Friday night with my family, we have a delicious dinner together before settling down, getting cosy and watching a film together.
Favourite spot to hang out in the UK? Why?
My favorite spot to visit in the UK is Cornwall! We’ve taken the kids away there on holiday and made the best memories there.
Coffee or Tea?
